Remaking and Living with Resource Frontiers: Insights from Myanmar and Beyond

Myanmar, a nation situated between India, China and Southeast Asia, has long histories of colonialism, violence, resource extraction. This special issue introduction, written in the midst Myanmar’s 2021 military coup COVID-19 pandemic, offers two critical feminist interventions – ‘remaking’ ‘living with’ to understand contested embodied political geographies extractive frontiers Myanmar. ‘Remaking’ focuses on roots frontiers, underscoring historical spatial processes through which plural authorities have restructured diverse territories for accumulation extraction from pre-colonial period recent ‘democratic transition’. ‘Living bring attention people’s everyday lives, why how they adapt, resist, comply, suffer profit frontiers.
